BHRA in the 1980s

BHRA in the 1980s…In the 1980s we begun the
Brooklyn Trolley project in DUMBO, the waterfront
neighborhood between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges.
Unlike our later work in Red Hook, where we had to build
our own trolley tracks, we ran our trolley car on the
historic streetcar and freight tracks that continue to
exist in this neighborhood.  Since no overhead
wires were present we powered the trolley through the
use of a really big electrical cord connected to our
600V DC power supply system.    A map
showing plans to once again return trolley service to
the DUMBO area can be found on our
maps page

Motorman in historical attire, driving the #3 End of the line – the cobblestone streets were patch
repaired with asphalt over the years, as we removed the
asphalt covering the tracks, we were able to extend the
line.
