Delivery of Vulcan switcher to Brooklyn

Vulcan 20-ton #4353

This diesel-powered locomotive was rescued and brought to Brooklyn for use as our
work trains. It was built in February 1943, for the Army Corps of Engineers and
is believed to have been used in Brooklyn as part of the war effort. The original
gasoline powerplant was replaced with a more powerful diesel engine sometime before
acquisition by BHRA.

Our Vulcan switcher…

… a diamond in the rough?

Carefully placed on a trailer
for delivery to Brooklyn.

Carefully backing down onto
Brooklyn rails!

At rest in the Navy Yard.

The builder’s plate for
our Vulcan switcher.
